About Dr. Valerie Crawford

Dr. Crawford is a licensed clinical psychologist (CA Lic. PSY27378). She has experience working with couples, individuals, families, and children. She helps clients with anxiety, depression, relationships, life transitions, personal growth, emotional development, trauma, and unresolved issues from family of origin.
Dr. Crawford is certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and Families (EFT), as a therapist and supervisor. EFT is an approach that engages couples in an experiential process that has been scientifically demonstrated effective in reducing conflict, improving relationship quality, and strengthening bonds. She is a lifetime member of the International Center of Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy, and a former board president of the Northern California Community for EFT.
Dr. Crawford is a certified EMDR practitioner and experienced with using EMDR to treat shock trauma, interpersonal and relational trauma, and to strengthen and improve resilience, performance, and presence.
Dr. Crawford holds a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Psychology from Clark University in Massachusetts and a B.A. in Communication from University of California, San Diego.
She uses a variety of evidence-based approaches, depending on clients’ needs. She collaborates with clients in therapy that is effective, active, experiential, practical, and results-oriented. Valerie is described by clients as supportive, warm, interactive, compassionate, and intuitive.
Prior to training as a psychotherapist, Dr. Crawford worked for nearly 12 years as a research psychologist, 9 of them at SRI International in Menlo Park, a renown research and development institute. She was awarded multiple grants as principal investigator from the National Science Foundation to conduct research in the learning sciences. She also consulted on educational issues to corporations and foundations. Her research focused on expertise, learning, and educational applications of emerging technologies.
